The 2025 Chevrolet Colorado ZR2 Bison is Rugged and Glam in All the Right Ways for the Whole Family
Radiant Red Tintcoat and this ginger enjoying the off-roading trails? I am so here for it.
Chevrolet gave me this press loan for a week in exchange for my 100% honest thoughts on their truck. All opinions are my own.
I’ve become more and more intrigued with trucks since I’ve had access to drive them more often. And ladies, we love trucks, too, so show them off! It’s awesome to agree on a truck with my husband. I want to enjoy the ruggedness, too.
We get the best of both worlds: trucks are fun and capable for those dirty, rocky, and muddy trails around Texas — but it’s also stylish, thoughtful, and ready for any ride ahead of us. Starting at $49,600, could it also be perfect for the whole family?
We’re a small family of three with lots of on and off-road adventures. We wanted to take the 2025 Chevrolet Colorado ZR2 Bison and see if it could be the perfect truck for us in our daily lives and on the weekend, too.
Red Paint is Always a Yes for Me, And This Rugged Red is Mighty Fine
It’s an art to get over the terrain and make it look good, too.
The 2025 Chevrolet Colorado ZR2 Bison can approach and conquer the rocky and muddy terrain especially here in North Texas. We sometimes have the four seasons in a week, so our family needs a truck that can handle it all.
With an aggressive stance and ground clearance with front and fuel tank skid plates, you know that this truck not only looks the part: it’s about that life. Boldly colorful, the tow hooks catch your attention and remind you where they are just in case. And you might just need them at some point, so the accented color is definitely a must!
With the 2025 Chevrolet Colorado ZR2 Bison, you’re not just a truck fan. You want that Chevy grit and performance, and you know what? You look good driving it, too. What does that even mean?! You become one with the truck, and it exudes personality with its styling that not only do you know how to drive it, you can trust the capability to take you where you want to go.
I want to have a great time in my truck and wherever I want. There are no exceptions. This baddie has a Radiant Red Tintcoat and it’s an eye-catching thrill when it pulls up on 17” beadlock capable wheels with black wall tires.
For shorties like me at 5’4”, this truck has the prowess you’d hope for in a truck this size: the AEV points to its off-road capabilities to get through a trail without losing its spirits, parts, or fun along the way. (Ok, you don’t have to baby it, but also, you don’t want to fully send it when it is this beautiful. Balance is key here like anything else, but this beast deserves some respect!)
Premium as a standard You’ll Love Even off the grid
Inside the 2025 Chevrolet Colorado ZR2 Bison, the leather-appointed bucket seating upfront with contrasting stitching in Jet Black/Artemis is stunning and standard. The 11.3” advanced color LCD display with Google built-in is also standard. I thought the camo design on the wireless charger and on the dash were a nice touch for the rugged theme with this trim. It has a cool design to it and with heated and ventilated seats, it is perfect for those chilly and hot summer nights alike.
Look up! There’s a power sunroof option, and as a native Floridian, it’s truly a must for me. I need the ability to get some sun and wind when I need to just turn up my favorite songs and belt it out. If you hear me, mind your business. The concert is now in session!
With storage inside the center console and in the doors themselves, I knew this truck could help me carry all the snacks and drinks for those long drives. The cupholders are Texas-sized and approved, too, so yes, your favorite cup can fit! Check mine out here.
With the technology package, you get that Bose premium sound system for the jams, but it is also a must since you don’t get Super Cruise with this trim. I was hoping for it, since it’s one of my favorite Chevrolet features, but you’ll want the adaptive cruise control. I needed the camera views, and for a shorter person, it makes it easier to see how you can approach from each wheel. This is ideal especially if you’re towing/hauling.
I did however wish there was a digital rear-view mirror, but sitting higher up than most on the road, I did not encounter too many glaring lights in my rear-view mirror. I loved that the safety features alert you when there is a vehicle approaching on your side, but the bed-mounted vertical spare tire carrier did block my view when driving. (While I need the extra tire, I would have placed this somewhere else in the spray-lined truck bed.)
In the future, I would enjoy more grab handles in convenient locations for the driver side and second row passengers. The driver seat does not have one and the backseat has cloth ones, but this is not easy when you’re getting little ones in and out. However, once inside, the drive makes up for this minor note.
If you need to setup car seats, you can fit two seats to latch and anchor at the bottom on the left and right seats. The air vents and connectivity create a calming backseat especially for short trips with three adults in the back or little ones in the back who have different charging needs for the long haul. From tech, comfort, and style, this checks the boxes overall and there’s plenty of legroom even in the second row.
All that power and you’ll want it on and off-road
Clear your calendar and get ready to spend time with your family off-roading and enjoying the weekend off the beaten path.
With 310 horsepower and 430 lb-ft of torque makes it easy to accelerate around other drivers safely and intentionally. This 2.7L Turbo Max engine has an 8-speed automatic transmission that can put power down, but be prepared to step heavy on the brakes.
This truck is made for those wide open spaces and treacherous terrain, so be mindful on the roads that the braking is a bit stiffer. The powertrain grade braking is helpful when you’re going downhill to maintain speed and reduces your brake wear over time. When off-road climbing up muddy roads, or descending with hill descent control, you want to have control for a smooth ride without depressing the brake pedal.
If you’re not off-roading as much as you’d like, you might want to opt for the Z71 to have a more tech-focused truck, but cloth seats come standard with leather-appointed seats as an option. (I know I was contemplating which way I’d go, but it was too perfect in the dirty, rocky trails nearby to say no entirely.)
I’d have to drive that trim to compare, but this is from experience in other Chevrolet vehicles and their respective trims. I love that Chevrolet has different trims tailored to your needs, and that gives us plenty of options to think could fit into your daily or weekend vibe.
Off-roading and Weekend Fun is in Your Future
As equipped at $64,340, I can see small families with kids over 10 that would love this truck the most. My family enjoyed this truck for different reasons, but it made the weekend more thrilling with its ground clearance, horsepower, and technology options. If your kids love to climb and you want to get out into more adventurous drives away from the crowds, this is the truck for you. Until next time, see you on the next drive.
