Texas Auto Writers Association: 31st Annual Texas Truck Rodeo: To 'Send It' With Reason

Texas Truck Rodeo: A Drive to Remember!
Photo credit: Kevin McCauley |So many vehicles to take off-road, hit the road, or lightly tread in the grass. Either way, there was enough to keep us busy for 7 hours.
For a full day of driving, it’s exhilarating to meet up with our fellow journalists and compare notes around first impressions and overall experiences. We all have different day jobs, and for some, they’re from out of state, so it’s truly a treat to work creatively alongside savvy auto journalists in one special event.
With 7 hours of driving available, we may not realistically get to drive every single vehicle. However, it’s always recommended to have a priority list for your own personal expectations. I made one ahead of time, so I could drive everything I came to see.
And I still was not able to drive all of my top hits. Time for some press loans, right? But that’s a great thing for the manufacturers! There were highly-sought after vehicles that were just nonstop in and out, and I don’t blame them. There were top contenders for amazing off-roading capability at its finest. (Texas tough, anyone?)
Get In, We’ve Got Driving To Do, Partner.
Photo credit: Kevin McCauley |Whether it's your first rodeo or not, taking these vehicles off-roading pushes them to their personal best. Show us what you were made for -- and this Ram 1500 Rebel dominated that dirt and mud. I had fun experiencing the new updates with drive partner and friend Angel Martinez of Fast Cars Daily.
I love the Texas Truck Rodeo, where I get to take the off-roading trucks and SUVs on rocky, muddy, and dirt-packed roads that make up the Texas countryside and gives us the realistic technicalities we can expect to encounter and conquer off the grid.
Whether you’re a novice or expert, the course will test your wits to trust the vehicle to do its job and maneuver the ascending and descending obstacles along the way. If you wish, you can take a brand rep or fellow journalist to join you for the off-road course.
Feel free to enjoy the scenery and drive around the grassy areas with the light off-roaders, park in the paddock parking lots without traffic, or take a spirited drive at your own leisure for the street-only vehicles. Choosing your own adventure can yield exactly what you’re looking for and more.
After teaming up with different drive partners and brand representatives throughout the day, my heart felt content to share this experience together yet again. New memories, more vehicles on the wishlist to request on the next press loan schedule, and more writing (and video editing) ahead of us. Now that’s the sweet stuff.
More To Come
