2024 Toyota Tacoma TRD Off-Road
Did Toyota get it right with the TRD Off-Road for those who want to get that TRD Pro handling but for less $$$? Let’s take a look and see if it’s worth every penny.
Mama loves performance, efficiency, and capability — does this Tacoma measure up?
With inclement weather these days, you never know what to expect. Having a vehicle that can go over any type of terrain gives you options. From the front, you can tell this exterior design is not playing. You have ground clearance and the ability to enter terrain at different angles. (Plus you have cameras to help guide you through it all when looking out the window won’t simply do.) How will this hold up as your daily driver? Let’s talk basics.
This 2024 Toyota Tacoma TRD Off-Road has an I-Force 2.4L 4 cylinder turbocharged engine and it’s an 8-speed automatic. And the exterior? Yeah, it is far from basic. This standout truck is in the vibrant Blue Crush Metallic color and aggressively cuts through with those stunning LED headlights and fog lights. Outside of functional aesthetics, for my wallet watching, penny pinchers: here’s the fuel economy: Combined 21, City 19, Highway 23. I know, I know. At this stage in the game, you have to know your numbers and what is worth it if you’re commuting a lot or if it isn’t necessarily a dealbreaker to hit higher MPGs. For a midsize truck, this is on par for the category.
Here is what you’ll get at the TRD Off-Road trim leve.

MTS (multi-terrain select aka off-road modes)
Fun, spirited solo drives or family adventure time: Either way, you’re equipped to work or play hard.
We know there’s ease and accessibility with tech upgrades to keep you aware and informed along the drive, but what about your precious cargo in the back? It’s easy to get a car seat or booster seat in and out of the second row. This is important, but remember, your second row should be at max packed with two children in car seats, booster seats, and/or if they are older and able to buckle in normally. Otherwise, the legroom is not desirable for an adult or teen in my opinion. However, to each their own, I’ll let you take it for a spin and see for yourself.
Customize your truck your way! This one as tested had a 5-ft bed, but in case you need that extra space, there is also an option for a 6-ft bed. Depending on if you like to take the family out on trips involving boats, ATVs, and jet skis, (or maybe a project car to take to the track,) you can opt for the towing technology package. This also gets you an Integrated trailer brake controller. Whether you are tailgating with the family or stargazing in a national park, your truck bed has lighting, cameras, and connectivity to get you to those destination locations together safely.
